Importance of Testing Hormones
At Ventana Wellness, measuring hormone levels is a commonly used diagnostic tool. In fact, testing and treating with hormones is central to our practice, and our primary care providers have all received specialty training in how and when to administer the tests, how to interpret the results, and how to bring hormones into balance.

Hormone imbalances underlie a spectrum of problems for both men and women—everything from hot flashes, fatigue, and depression, to weight gain, acne, and low libido. Measuring hormone levels and interpreting the results can help us to explain symptoms and accurately prescribe treatment. While there are normal ranges for all hormone levels, the optimal ranges are the most important aspect of balance for each person.

Hormone levels are evaluated using a simple blood (serum) draw taken during an office or lab visit. When lab results are available, you will meet with your provider to go over results. If your lab results indicate that your problems are hormone related, you may be prescribed natural bioidentical hormones along with lifestyle modifications. (Diet, stress, and physical activity have a direct bearing on hormone balance.)

Hormone levels frequently tested include: estradiol, testosterone, progesterone, DHEA, and insulin, cortisol, pregnenalone, and thyroid hormones: TSH, free T4, free T3, thyroid antibodies.
