Michael Altman is a Certified Nutritionist and registered professional member of the American Herbalists Guild.  He consults individuals about a range of health issues and teaches nutrition at Southern Oregon University and College of the Siskiyous in Northern California.  Some of Michael’s specialties include integrative cancer care and neurology, fatigue, hormonal management, asthma, allergies, overweight, chronic pain, digestive conditions, depression, and cardiovascular health.

In the clinical nutrition assessment, I utilize varied strengths of observation in evaluating health history, diet, lifestyle, lab reports, physical signs and symptoms, toxin exposure, stress, and other pertinent past history and occurrences. Integrating prevention and harm avoidance as basic tenets, clients’ outcomes are greatly improved.

 

Actions are always based on my clients’ wants, needs, and goals.  A unique feature of clinical nutrition understanding is that one’s health is affected by the endogenous and exogenous environments—that is the “world” within us and the world that surrounds us.  One can safely argue that we have far less control of the outside environment that nourishes us; however nutrition may play a crucial role in supporting our body’s detoxification, immune system, and adaptation to a stressful and potentially unhealthy environment. 

 

All that we consume, absorb, and metabolize can be nutritive or less so.  In this sense, air and water can be viewed as nutrients.  Increasingly, we are beginning to grasp that our environment may have as much an effect on us as our genetics.  We’ve begun to understand that our phenotype, what we “become” after the environment “acts on us”, can be altered through nutrition.  Aging can be slowed.  Ill health can be reversed.  Time, resources, and effort must always be allocated to achieve these ends.

 

In your clinical nutrition consultation, I’ll pull together all the information and synthesize a cohesive protocol that combines modified diet and lifestyle, nutritional supplements, and herbs that can alter gene expression, optimize cardiovascular, endocrine, and immune function, and vastly improve mood, energy and “healthspan”.  I will address your biochemical individuality, the uniqueness that is you, and will pay special attention to encouraging “organ reserve”, which promotes longer life and enduring health.
