Overcoming Sexual and Hormonal Problems at Every Age
This book delivers practical advice to help women of all ages cope with the hormonal effects of thyroid conditions. Millions of American women suffer with a variety of sexual and reproductive health issues, such as low sex drive, infertility, difficult pregnancies, PMS, and menopausal symptoms. Mary states she would like to see the thyroid being checked along with a woman’s annual physical exam and unfortunately, many of these women and their practitioners do not recognize that undiagnosed or improperly treated thyroid conditions may be the real cause of their problems. The thyroid is one of the master glands, along with the adrenal gland which can affect weight loss or gain and hair loss in women.
Mary Shomon’s book offers a holistic guide to help women identify thyroid and hormone problems. There are many supplements such as multi vitamins, B vitamins, minerals and amino acids, thyrosine, selenium for proper thyroid function, auto-immune disease (Grave Disease), essential fatty acids, such as primrose oil and fish oil. Our body needs Iodine, but we need to have a balance of iodine in the system, it can irritate the thyroid. People who live in the mid-west have an iodine deficiency due to a lack of nutrients in the soil. A good variety of multiple B Vitamins are essential for our body for energy and thyroid disease. Calcium and iron can affect the thyroid medication if taken at the same time, so it is a good idea to take them at different times of the day. Prescriptions can vary in strength and potency of thyroid medication from generics to name brands, which can change the effectiveness to our bodies.
Women who have Post-partum depression or blues are tired, exhausted and stressed. This is a time that can be difficult for the mom to bond with her baby and cope with her life changes. After a woman has delivered her baby, she loses a large amount of hormones and this can cause post-partum depression. Women do not need to suffer alone with these symptoms, but can find help with a doctor or provider who can balance their hormones and find relief.
